YVONNE SWAIN

June 2, 1938 – July 11, 2022

 

 

ELKHART- Yvonne Swain, 84, of Elkhart, passed away Monday July 11, 2022, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.  She was born June 2, 1938, in Caretta, West Virginia to Robert and Bartie Mae (Boyd) Baker.

     On February 19, 1962, in Elizabeth City, NC she married Johnnie Swain.  He survives along with a daughter, Pamela C. (Steve) Coleman of Goshen, IN; 2 grandchildren, Kaitlyn D. Coleman of Goshen, IN and Mackinzie S. (Eric Eisman) Coleman of Mishawaka, IN; her brother, Ivan (Nancy) Baker of Elkhart, IN and her furry friend “Benny”, who was always by her side.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Edith Jessie.

     Yvonne was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church in Elkhart for over 50 years, and she was a third grade Sunday school teacher there for many years.  She also attended the New Life Christian Center in Bristol. She also volunteered at the Council on Aging for many years.  Yvonne enjoyed reading, playing cards with friends, spending time with her grandchildren and she loved animals.

     A funeral procession will start at 1:00 p.m. Friday July 15, 2022, at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman and will travel to Prairie Street Cemetery where she will be laid to rest.  Pastor Nathan Whidden from Calvary Assembly of God will render a graveside service at the cemetery.

     The family would like to extend a special thank you to Southern Care Hospice, for the wonderful care they gave to Yvonne.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Calvary Assembly of God or to the Elkhart County Humane Society.
