WILSON E. HOLYCROSS
June 3, 1936 – April 22, 2023
Wilson E. (Bill/Abe) Holycross, 86, of Bristol peacefully left this life for the next on Saturday, April 22, 2023.
He was born June 3, 1936 in Elkhart, Indiana to Ralph and Ida Holycross.
On September 16, 1961, in Chevy Chase, Maryland, he married Maureen Dick of Scotland, UK. She preceded him in death in 2007. Surviving are his daughters, Linda (Steve) Nielsen of Middlebury, Gayle Holycross of Elkhart, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Holycross was a 1955 graduate of Elkhart High School. Abe worked in the auto repair and restoration business for most of his life. He created custom-built hearses, restored Rolls Royce, Model A, antique bicycles and even designed fire trucks. For many years his grass fire truck was in the Bristol Homecoming Parade. Abe also replaced the lightbulb atop the Bristol water tower for several years. He enjoyed bowling, mushroom hunting, listening to classical and big band music, canoeing and, in his younger years, travelling the natural beauty of our country. Abe was a volunteer firefighter and EMT with the Bristol Fire Department for several years. He was also a trained scuba diver. Abe was nearly a life-long blood donor as well. Abe and his wife hosted many exchange students from around the globe.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Walley Mills Zimmerman Funeral Home, 700 E. Jackson Blvd, Elkhart, Indiana followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bristol Fire and Police Departments.
