William H. Elliott

ELKHART- William H. Elliott, 87, of Elkhart, passed away Thursday August 6, 2020 at Courtyard Health Care in Goshen.  He was born July 5, 1933 in Elkhart to Russell “Bud” & Dorothy (Colby) Elliott.

     On June 28, 1974 in Elkhart he married Luella (Thornton) Demerly.  She survives along with 5 children, Tina (Lester) Hembree, Wanda (James) Scott both of Elkhart, Dawn (James) Gray of Hobart, IN, Jim L. Demerly of Elkhart, Steven Demerly of Goshen.  Also surviving are 11 grandchildren: 27 great-grandchildren and 2 sisters, Sonja Wynn of Elkhart and Donna Weaver of FL.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Ryan Elliott, a stepdaughter Dorla Demerly, 2 grandsons, Matthew Lee Bontrager, Davis Nelson Demerly and a sister, Mary Ellen Sawyer.

     Bill was a US Army veteran serving from 1954 to 1956 and received an honorable discharge.  He was a member of the American Legion in Edwardsburg, MI, attended the Calvary Assembly of God in Elkhart and was a member of the Quarter century Club at Miles.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting camping, NASCAR, stock car racing, the Indianapolis 500 and was an avid Notre Dame fan.  Bill retired from Miles Labs where he worked for 36 years.

     Friends may visit with the family from 11-1 p.m. on Monday August 10, 2020 at the Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.  Pastor Brian Whidden from Calvary Assembly of God will preside and burial will follow in Rice Cemetery where full military honors will be rendered.

     Memorial contributions may be given to the Calvary Assembly of God or to AsaraCare Hospice in Mishawaka.
