Terry Olen Fair Obituary

Terry Olen Fair passed away Sunday, June 11, 2023, from complications due to congestive heart failure.

His last days were spent at home, surrounded by the love of family. Ever patriotic, Terry was born on flag day, June 14, 1941, to Robert and Ann (Ringler) Fair in Elkhart, Indiana. He spent his formative years in Elkhart before the family move to Albuquerque, New Mexico.

As a youth, Terry loved to spend his days with friends, riding his Black Phantom bike all about the foothills of the Sandia Mountains.

Terry graduated from Sandia High School in 1959. During his academic career he ran track and served as a member of Key Club and as Student Body President. He later studied at the University of New Mexico.   On August 3, 1961, Terry married Linda McMullan in Albuquerque. They later divorced, and she survives with their daughter, Elaine Fair Crump, and their son, Donald C. Fair.

As a young man, Terry worked as a finish carpenter and foreman before entering the sales force of the manufactured housing industry.

Terry married Tanya Fillio on December 29, 1984, in Elkhart. Together they owned and operated Fair, INC, specializing in insurance restoration, until his retirement at the end of 2006.

As ballroom dance enthusiasts, Terry and Tanya joined the American Amateur Ballroom Dancing Association, where Terry lent his leadership skills as President for three years.

Terry was an avid bowler and received numerous awards throughout his bowling career. He served as President of the Elkhart Bowling Association 1984-1985 and was inducted into the EBA Hall of Fame in 2004.

Terry also excelled at horseshoe pitching, winning the Elkhart City Championship in 2000. He served for two years as the President of the Elkhart Horseshoe Pitching Association.

In retirement Terry kept himself busy working part-time as Operations Manager at GRC Golf Products, delivering magazines for Home and Lifestyle and most recently, delivering meals for Meals on Wheels. He also enjoyed playing euchre, fishing for bluegill, and camping at Twin Mills. Terry found great solace in working on his yard, and he was exceptionally proud to be the Great-Grandfather of five.

In addition to his son and daughter, Terry is survived by his wife of 38 years, Tanya, his stepson, Bradley (Tammy) Comer, four grandchildren, Dustin (Kelsey) Crump, Lauren (Jesse) Gettinger, Cambria Comer, Kaelyn Comer, and five great-grandchildren.

Terry's family would like to thank the nursing staff of Elkhart General Hospital and the staff of Heart-to-Heart Hospice for their care and dedication to our dear patriarch.
