Suzanne Lee Marques Obituary

Suzanne L. Marques, of Elkhart, Indiana, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 18, 2024 at her daughter’s home surrounded by her family.

She was born December 21,1940 to Jay and Jean Hicks, in Elkhart, where she lived her whole life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor D. Marques, brother Jon Hicks and her parents.  Suzanne is survived by her son, Patrick (Amy) Marques of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter, Michelle (Michael) Kosner of Highland Park, IL;  her very special grandchildren: Dagny, Samantha and Izabel Marques, Chance and Scout Kosner, and Sydney Orth; her sisters Becky Price and Vicky Hicks, and brother Tim (Sharon) Hicks; and brother-in-law, Fred (Carol) Marques

Suzanne graduated from Ball State University in 1962, where she met Victor and many of her lifelong friends.  She taught elementary school art for three years before she had her first child.  Suzi was active in the PTA, The League of Women Voters and Pi Beta Phi Alumnae Association, and spent time as a president in each of these organizations.

She was a registered Democrat and believed strongly in women’s rights.  She was active in her high school reunion committee and volunteered at the Midwest Museum of American Art.  She loved to play tennis and found many close friends through the sport.  She also enjoyed her time as an Assistant Tennis Coach at Memorial High School for two years in the late 1980’s.

Suzi was, as one friend put it, “A Force of Nature.”  She was small but mighty, spoke her mind and stood up for what was right.  She was always there for her family and friends, whom she loved deeply.

A private graveside family service will be held on Saturday, August 31st.  A Celebration of Life will follow at Hotel Elkhart from 12-4 pm for family and friends.

To carry on Suzi’s commitment to make recurring contributions to the organizations she supported, please consider a memorial in her name to The National Holocaust Museum or Planned Parenthood.

Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home, 700 East Jackson Blvd, Elkhart, Indiana 46516, is entrusted with the arrangements.
