Stephen Wagner Obituary

Stephen L. Wagner, 73, passed away January 21, 2021 at Elkhart General Hospital.  He was born May 23, 1947 in Elkhart, IN.
On October 31, 1964 he married Sandra “Sandy” Mossey; she survives along with 2 daughters, Kassie (Jed) Rodino, Trina (Rich) Hornor, 5 grandchildren, Nate, Christian (Mackenzie), Brooks, Avery and Rylee.  Also surviving is 1 brother, Jeff (Bridgett) Wagner, 1 sister-in-law, Viv Wagner, 1 brother-in-law, Larry LaLime and numerous other family members and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald & Wilma (Schade) Wagner, 1 grandson, Alec, 2 siblings, Denny Wagner and Sue LaLime.
Steve was an Honorary Golden Eagle of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #395, a member of the Elkhart D.A.V. # 19 and Sons of the American Legion in Bristol #143.
He bowled on many leagues throughout his life, accomplishing three 300 games and is in the St. Louis Bowling Hall of Fame.  He enjoyed taking care of his home, yard, and pool.  Having pool parties and cookouts were a pleasure for him because he loved being surrounded by his friends and family, singing, and listening to music.  Steve would often be seen feeding the birds and squirrels who would wait for him to come outside.   He was also a die-hard Chicago Bears Fan that liked to travel and always made time to attend his grandchildren’s sporting events.  Steve would often stop what he was doing to help someone in need and because of that he will be remembered as a wonderful family man with a heart of gold and an inspirational smile.
Visitation will be held from 11-1 p.m. with the funeral services beginning at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home.  Entombment will follow in Rice Cemetery Hope Mausoleum and presiding will be Pastor Spencer Mielke from Trinity Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the Elkhart County Feral Cat Coalition or the Elkhart County Humane Society.
