SHIRLEY J. DOBERENZ
August 30, 1933 – June 5, 2025
ELKHART- Shirley J. Doberenz, 91, of Elkhart, passed away Thursday June 5, 2025, at Riverside Village in Elkhart. She was born August 30, 1933, in Woodbine, Iowa to Charles & Leone (Collins) Brookhouser.
On April 9, 1955, she married Werner E. Doberenz. He preceded her in death on March 26, 1980. Surviving are 4 sons, Scott E. Doberenz of Elkhart, IN, Brett P. (Kelly) Doberenz of Goshen, Gregg A. (Cindie) Doberenz of Goshen, Mark E. (Mary) Doberenz of Phoenixville, PA; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 daughters, Theresa & Debra, her granddaughter, Sophia and 2 sisters, Arlene Kenkel and Lavonne Stenzel.
Shirley was employed for 12 years as a secretary at Investment Planning Associates in Elkhart. She was a long-time member of the Central Christian Church in Elkhart, where she served as an elder, librarian, and was a member of the share and care widows’ group. She was a member of ALANON and she enjoyed gardening, reading and spending time with her grandchildren.
In keeping with her wishes cremation has taken place. A graveside service for Shirley will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday June 14, 2025, in the chapel at Memories Mausoleum at Rice Cemetery. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Werner. Pastor Troy Scott will be officiating.
Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home is entrusted with her care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to ALANON or the Alzheimer’s Association.
