RONALD E. SOUTHERN, SR.

January 6, 1933 – July 12, 2023

BRISTOL- Ronald E. Southern, Sr., 90, of Bristol, Indiana, passed away Wednesday July 12, 2023, in Elkhart, Indiana.  He was born January 6, 1933, in Elwood, Indiana to Rayner S. & Opal R. (Bredon) Southern.

     On August 27, 1952, in Elwood, Indiana he married Arlene A. Foley.  She survives along with 7 children, Ronda K. Losee, LouAnne Eaton both of Elkhart, IN, Terha L. (Dennie) Pernell, Ron E. Southern, Jr., both of Goshen, IN, James D. (Sarah) Southern of Fort Wayne, IN, Lisa M. Wordelman of Edwardsburg, MI, Bradley K. (Tammy) Southern of Plymouth, IN; 24 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and 16 great great grandchildren.  Additional survivors include 2 sisters, Linda Southern of Elwood, IN, Judy McClish of Elyria, OH: 2 brothers, Steve Southern and Rodger Southern both of Elwood, IN and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents Ray & Opal Southern, 3 sisters, Ann Singleton of Mississippi, Carol Marshal of Elwood, IN, Maureen Southern of Elwood, IN, 1 brother Kevin Southern of Goshen, IN, 1 son-in-law, Craig A. Losee of Elkhart, IN and 1 granddaughter, Stephaine Southern of Goshen, IN.

     Ron was a US Army veteran serving from 1953 – 1955 and was honorably discharged.  He worked for Keystone RV and retired in 2010.

     Cremation will take place and a private family service with military honors will be held at Rice Cemetery at a later date.

     Walley- Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home is entrusted with his care.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Elkhart County Humane Society.
