ROGER KENT HOOGENBOOM

November 17, 1947 – January 25, 2022

 

 

ELKHART- Roger Kent Hoogenboom, 74, of Elkhart, died Tuesday January 25, 2022, at Riverside Village in Elkhart.  He was born November 17, 1947, in Goshen, Indiana to B.G. and Lina Belle (Vance) Hoogenboom.

     On September 16, 2007, in Goshen, IN he married Susan L. (Chaney) Shepherd.  She survives along with 1 son, Marc (Amy) Crawford of San Diego, CA; 2 grandchildren, Olivia, and Darin Crawford; 1 stepson Mike (Jacque) Shepherd of Granger, IN; a step daughter-in-law, Jamie Shepherd of Edwardsburg, MI and 4 step grandchildren, Alexis Shepherd, Alex Bigler, Brianna Shepherd and Mikayla Shepherd.  Also surviving are 2 sisters, Vickie (Barney) Barhydt of Millersburg, IN, Cindy (Hector) Rios of Las Vegas, NV; 1 brother, Ron Hoogenboom of Albuquerque, NM and several nieces and nephews.  Roger was preceded in death by his parents, a stepson Lance Shepherd, his former wife, Sharon Crawford and his 2 furry friends Big Simon and Little Simon.

     Roger graduated in 1965 from Goshen High School and in 1967 from the International Business College.  He served in the US Army from 1968-1974 in Okinawa and was a member of the Green Berets.  Roger was a member of the Greene Road Church in Goshen and was an avid Miami Dolphins and Notre Dame fan.

     Roger worked as an assembler at Masterbrand Cabinets from 2003 – 2014.

Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will take place at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at Prairie Street Cemetery with Military Honors.   Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home is entrusted with his care.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association.
