Richard Z. Schiltz

October 9, 1930 – November 8, 2020

 

 

ELKHART- Richard Z. Schiltz, 90, of Elkhart, died on Sunday November 8, 2020 at Elkhart General Hospital.  He was born October 9, 1930 in Elkhart to Zeidoine & Edith (Campbell) Schiltz.

     On November 5, 1952 in Honolulu, Hawaii he married Martha L. Corl.  She preceded him in death on August 20, 2020 in Elkhart, IN.  Surviving are 3 children, Ronald W. (Kathy) Schiltz of Nappanee, IN, Pegge M. (Carl) Allman, James M. (Deb) Schiltz both of Elkhart; 3 grandchildren, Bryan Schiltz, Yvonne Crane, Stephanie Artley all of Elkhart and 10 great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are 3 siblings, Gene Schiltz of Safety Harbor, Fl, Charles (Donnabelle) Schiltz of Elkhart, Sherry Reed of Glenwood Springs, CO and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Martha, 2 siblings, Larry Schiltz, Lela Yasui , and his granddaughters husband, David Artley.

     Richard graduated in 1948 from Elkhart High School and served during the Korean Conflict with the US Navy.  He was a member of the masonic lodge in Elnora, IN, the Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, and the Mizpah Shrine.  Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and was an avid Notre Dame and Indianapolis Colts fan.  He worked as a sales representative in the mobile home industry in Elkhart for many years.

     Funeral services for Richard will be held at Noon Thursday November 12, 2020 at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home.  Pastor Tom DeFries from St. Paul’s United Methodist Church will preside and burial with military honors will follow at Rice Cemetery.  Friends may visit with the family for 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Masks are required to be worn.

     Memorial contributions may be given to the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
