Richard D. “Dick” Marshall Sr.

January 26, 1938 – December 17, 2024

ELKHART- Richard D. “Dick” Marshall Sr., 86, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday December 17, 2024, at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka.  He was born January 26, 1938, in Elkhart, Indiana to Walter & Pearl (Stiffler) Marshall.

     On February 1, 1958, in Elkhart, Indiana he married Carolyn R. “Cork” Anderson.  She survives along with 1 daughter, Kathy (Bill) Lantz of Syracuse, IN, 1 son, Richard D. (Susan) Marshall, Jr., of Bloomington, IN; 6 grandchildren, Christopher (Andrea) Lantz of Huntington, IN, Meghan (Jeff) Sindelar of Syracuse, IN, Ben Marshall of Round Rock, TX, Sarah (Sam) Freedlund, M.D. of St. Louis, MO, Hannah Marshall of Lafayette, IN, Jacob Marshall of Bloomington, IN and 5 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Jean Dunnick, Sandra Marshall and 2 brother James Marshall and Charles Marshall.

     Dick graduated in 1956 from Elkhart High School, was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist for 42 years where he served as head usher and was a member of the Elkhart Moose Lodge #599.  Dick enjoyed watching sporting events, golfing and was an avid Chicago Cub and Chicago Bears fan.  He ushered for Women’s and Men’s Basketball and Men’s Football and Hockey at Notre Dame for many years.

     Dick was employed as an equipment Installer for GTE (now Verizon) for over 30 years.

     Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. on Monday December 23, 2024, at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home.  Funeral services will start at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Pastor Tom DeFries from St. Paul’s United Methodist Church will preside along with Dick’s grandson Christopher Lantz.  Burial will follow at Rice Cemetery.

     Memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
