Richard L. Leers

Richard L. Leers, 87, of St. John, IN passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2021. He was born in Elkhart on October 26, 1933 to the late Louis A. and Florence S. (Penkul) Leers.

Richard is survived by sons Rick (Marc) of Niles, MI and Randall of New York, NY, daughter Lisa (Stephen) Jarzombek of St. John, IN, and grandchildren Timothy (Jenna), Katherine (Nicholas) and Candace. He is also survived by sister Joan Babcock of Vancouver, BC and brother Norman (Kay) Leers of Crystal Lake, MI, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marilyn Leers, brother David Leers, sister Judith Moyer, and brother-in-law John Babcock.

Richard was a machinist at Miles Laboratories until his retirement in 1998. He was a talented woodworker who crafted many “crayon cars” and trains for family and friends.

Richard was a humble devotee of his Spiritual Father, St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina. He offered his daily recitation of the Rosary to the Blessed Virgin Mary for the previously departed members of his family and all the poor souls in purgatory.

Services for Richard will be held privately.
