Richard H. Akin

ELKHART-Richard H. Akin, 83, passed away June 9, 2021 at I.U. Health Frankfort Hospital in Frankfort, IN.  He was born March 21, 1938 in Elkhart to Walter & Marie (Davis) Akin.
  He married Martha White; she survives along with 5 children, Leigh Ann (Doug) Simmons, Michael Akin, Mark (Leah) Akin, Beth Ann (Allen) O’Donnell, Amy (Jeff) Gooden, 5 stepchildren, Jack, Jerry, Robin, Brian and Brent.  Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
  He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 siblings, Ruth Windmiller, Marjorie Akin and Robert Akin.
  Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the 2 p.m. memorial service Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Reames Norton Cemetery. 
  Richard was a farmer that was around farms his entire life, was a heavy equipment operator, a member of Operating Engineers #324, a member of the Moose Lodge in Elkhart and a Cass County Auxiliary Volunteer.  He enjoyed collecting cast iron model farm and heavy machinery equipment and attending tractor pulls. 
  Memorial Contributions may be given to the Elkhart Moose Lodge.
