Ralph F. Miller Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ralph Fredrick Miller, a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, and proud Marine, who left us peacefully on March 1, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on July 15, 1937, to Charles F. Miller and Bernice (Dobson) Miller.
Ralph lived a life filled with love, adventure, and exploration. His journey began in the heart of
Michigan, where he attended Center Line High School, later following his former wife and mother of his children to the Marine Corp. Ralph’s passion for aviation led him to the Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Where he became a certified airplane mechanic and pilot.
Ralph’s career was multifaceted and deeply reflective of his adventurous spirit. He took to the skies, working as a corporate pilot for Richardson Mobile Homes. He spent significant
years working for Penn Central Railroad, which eventually transitioned into Conrail. These
experiences were not just jobs; they were part of the fabric of his life that shaped the remarkable man he became.
Over the years, Ralph’s fire-engine red hair and mischievous personality earned him many nicknames. Whether you knew him as Rotten Ralph, Rusty, Red, or even had the rare opportunity to meet Herby Swartzz; there is surely a story to tell. His family wants everyone to remember him not just for his infamous nicknames, but for the love he showered upon them.
Ralph was a devoted caregiver and unparalleled provider, and his pride in his family was his foremost priority and accomplishment. He cherished every moment with them, weaving memories that will forever remain in their hearts.
Ralph held many hobbies and interests over the years, from golfing to fishing, he had a passion for animals and classic cars; particularly his beloved 1968 Ford Mustang GT/CS. He enjoyed the thrill of a bargain and was a collector of miscellaneous things some of which mysteriously landed in his pocket.
Ralph loved his family deeply and was the cornerstone of their lives. He is survived by his beloved daughters, Kathleen Miller and Sharon (Mike) Hiles of Elkhart, along with his adoring
grandchildren, Patty Laws, Katie Sparr, Alex Hiles (fiance Sue Mixay), and Nicole Sparr, as well as his cherished great-grandchildren, Madilyn Hunt, Alee Hiles, and Ralph Spencer. He also leaves behind his brother, Charles “Bobby” Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ralph’s vibrant spirit, generosity, and love will be missed but never forgotten. Each story told and each memory shared will keep his legacy alive, reminding all who knew him of the warmth and kindness he radiated throughout his life.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Ralph will be laid to rest with family at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Detroit, Michigan. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Elkhart County, 54687 County Rd 19, Bristol, IN 46507.
