Oldfield Gay Obituary

Oldfield Norwood Gay

May 7, 1928 - March 9, 2023

Oldfield Norwood Gay passed away peacefully in his home on March 9, 2023, at the age of 94. He is survived by his loving wife, Imogene (Gibson) Gay, devoted son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Mary Norwood, and four grandchildren, Kyle Norwood, Cody Norwood, Katie Norwood-Klingstedt (Matthew Norwood-Klingstedt), and Carly Norwood.

He was born in Poughkeepsie, Arkansas on May 7, 1928 to Joseph Allen and Celia (Binkley) Gay. The youngest of 4 children, Norwood was born a people person. He was a little league coach and a deacon and elder at Twin Branch Bible Church. Norwood appreciated a good story and a strong cup of coffee. Family and friends remember him telling, listening to, and laughing over many memories while the coffee pot kept brewing.

Norwood and Genie first met in 1949 and married on September 29, 1950. Shortly after marriage, Norwood served as a proud Marine in the Korean War. Norwood and Genie moved to Indiana after his service to build a family and home where they remained until Norwood’s death. Norwood and Genie celebrated 72 years of marriage together this past September.

Norwood had a lifelong love of the outdoors especially when it came to his garden and traveling. His 38-year employment with Uniroyal allowed him to visit all 50 states. Favorite trips included hauls to Alaska and vacations to Hawaii. Above all, Norwood loved the Lord. He took his final journey home last week to meet his Savior.

He was preceded in death by his sisters Alline Gray, Emagene Johnson, and Joyce Anderson.

Friends and family are invited to attend a viewing (12:30pm) followed by a funeral service (1:30pm) on Sunday, March 19th. Both events will take place at Twin Branch Bible Church in Mishawaka.
