NANCY J. ERWIN
July 24, 1938 – February 1, 2023
ELKHART- Nancy J. Erwin, 84, of Elkhart, passed away Wednesday February 1, 2023, at Elkhart General Hospital. She was born July 24, 1938 in Sterling, Illinois to Clyde & Rita (McKenna) Conley.
On May 14, 1960 she married Chalmer (Stu) Erwin, Jr. He preceded her in death on May 22, 2007. Surviving are 4 children, David (Mary Ann) Erwin, Stephen Erwin both of Bristol, Daniel (Wanda) Erwin, Laura (Dan) Sullivan both of Elkhart; 6 grandchildren, Nathan Erwin, Kyle Erwin, Julie Erwin, Elijah Sullivan, Paige Erwin and Conner Erwin. Also surviving are 3 siblings, Sharon Strati, Robert Conley, both of Elkhart and Nora Jewell, of Mishawaka. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 4 sisters, Joanne Davis, Marcia Arcuri, Maureen Leyden, Kathleen Swihart, and a granddaughter, Brittany Sullivan.
Nancy graduated in 1956 from St. Joseph High School in Mishawaka. She was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, and a member of the Pursuit of Happiness, where she adopted the name “Forever Young”. This group of local women have been friends for over 50 years, and after raising their own families, supported Kid Care International which funded the building of Golgotha Orphans Care Preschool in Tanzania.
Nancy worked as a switchboard operator at Wheelabrator, was a preschool teacher and worked in real estate at Cressy & Everett.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 3-6 p.m. on Tuesday February 7, 2023 at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday February 8, 2023, at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church. Friends may visit with the family in the Vincent Hall at the church on Wednesday for 1 hour prior to the start of the Mass. Fr. Craig Borchard will render the mass and burial will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery.
