NANCY H. AURAND
March 26, 1919 – May 6, 2020
ELKHART- Nancy H. Aurand, 101, of Elkhart, passed away Wednesday May 6, 2020 at Riverside Village in Elkhart. She was born March 26, 1919 in Elkhart to Michael & Mary Elizabeth (Degulia) Piedmont.
On June 20, 1942 she married George V. “Sonny” Aurand. He preceded her in death on January 13, 2001. Surviving is a son, Edward Aurand (Mary) of Lake Port, FL; 2 grandsons, Chuck (Tina Stoller) Aurand of Elkhart, Steven Aurand of Rife, CO; 2 great grandchildren, Candace (Hector) Vazquez and Michael (Britney) Swanson and 4 great great grandchildren, Kamaron Farver, Chloe Farver, Cristino Rivera and Wyatt Steven Swanson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and 18 siblings.
Nancy was a beautician in Elkhart for many years and also was the owner of the Harrison Street Tavern for 15 years. She was a longtime member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, she enjoyed cooking, collecting coins and spending time with her family.
Nancy was a survivor, she survived spinal meningitis as a child and was also a breast cancer survivor. She and her husband had a 1941 Indian Motorcycle and in 2019 she was the Grand Marshall of Elkhart Bike Nite. She also received the key to the city of Elkhart from former mayor Tim Neese.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1331 N. Main Street, Elkhart on Thursday May 21, 2020 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning one hour prior. Father Jason Freiburger will officiate. The family is requesting anyone with a motorcycle may come to the church and the motorcycles will escort the funeral from the church to St. Vincent Cemetery where burial will take place.
Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home is entrusted with her care. Memorial contributions may be given to the Church.
