MARY ELIZABETH FREEZE

January 30, 1937 – January 5, 2026

ELKHART, IN- Mary Elizabeth Freeze, 88, of Elkhart, passed away Monday January 5, 2026, at her residence in Elkhart.  She was born January 30, 1937, in Smithville, TN to Calvin William & Fannie (Williams) Pirtle.

     On June 23, 1956, in Woodbury, TN, she married Ben Harvey Freeze.  He preceded her in death on September 14, 2022, in Elkhart, IN.  Surviving are 3 grandchildren, Jamie A. (Bethany) Freeze of Elkhart, IN, April M. Freeze of Edwardsburg, MI, Stefanie A. (Jack) Stouder of Goshen, IN; 7 great-grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harvey, 1 son, Alan H. Freeze (1-12-2007), 1 granddaughter, Allison C. Freeze (6-30-2015), 3 brothers, James, Bill & Freddie Pirtle and 1 sister, Minnie Farless.

     Elizabeth was employed as a seamstress for Sue Pirtle for many years.  She was a member of the Riverview General Baptist Church since 1974.  Elizabeth enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, watching game shows and soap operas on TV, bird watching and going out to eat at the Cracker Barrel.

     Funeral services for Elizabeth will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday January 10, 2026, at the Riverview General Baptist Church.  Pastor Rick Pirtle will render the service, and burial will follow in Olive (West) Cemetery.  Friends may visit with the family for 2 hours prior to the start of the service at the church.  Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home is entrusted with her care.
