Marilyn Judson Obituary

Marilyn Judson

July 25, 1933 – January 23, 2023

Marilyn Jolene Judson passed peacefully into Heaven on January 23, 2023. She was born Marilyn Jolene Fuller to Robert and Gladys Fuller on July 25, 1933 in Kalkaska County, Michigan. Her parents preceded her in death. She had three siblings who also preceded her in death, Gaylia (Fuller) Correll, David Fuller and Calvin Fuller.

Marilyn graduated from Traverse City High School in 1951 where she excelled in Art and Business and was on the yearbook staff. She was also a very talented pianist. She and Robert Leland Judson were wed on May 22, 1951 at Ogdensburg Methodist Church on Old Mission Peninsula.  She had to receive special approval to marry prior to her graduation. Bob had completed Naval training only four days before their wedding and was ready for transfer. Almost immediately after Marilyn’s graduation, the newlyweds departed via separate transportation for San Diego, California Naval Base where Bob boarded a ship for sea duty during the Korean War. He preceded Marilyn in death. They were married for 67 blessed years and Mari Jo and Bobby Lee are now reunited.

After the war, Bob and Marilyn moved to Elkhart, Indiana to enter the work force and raise a family. Marilyn was a loving mother who adored her children and raised them well. She was exceptional at everything to which she put her hand including the revered skills of cooking and baking. She was an excellent seamstress. She knew every trick of preserving food and she was the best nurse for all those childhood coughs, colds, scrapes and bruises. When the kids got into their middle years of school, Marilyn embarked on a 30-year business career with stops at Shaum Electric Co., Inc., Workinger Electric, Inc. and finally at McDonald Equipment Co. (MECO-Indiana) from where she retired as a senior executive.

Marilyn had a love for the outdoors, for nature and it’s living creatures and was always a “Northern Michigan girl.” She passed that to her children and her grandchildren and even a daughter-in-law who are all drawn to the beauty of the entire region surrounding Marilyn’s birth home. In retirement, she loved to travel and spent a lifetime building a wonderful doll collection and a world-class collection of salt & pepper shakers. She was an avid reader. She loved Jesus.

Marilyn was a long-time resident of the Hubbard Hill community in Elkhart, IN and a member of Jamestown United Methodist Church. She is survived by her children, Debra Pepple, Michael (Margaret) Judson and Kimberly (Otieno) Ochieng, grandchildren Okado Ochieng, Aaron (Abby) Judson, Akelo (Dr. Wesley) Harris, Matthew (Rebecca) Pepple and Sarah Breanne (Raymon) Judson-Carire, and nine great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 28, 2023 at the chapel at Hubbard Hill in Elkhart, from 10:00 a.m – 12:00 p.m. Funeral at 12:00 p.m. followed by burial at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Bristol, IN.
