Lula Bell Carter Obituary
Lula Bell "Jackson" Carter
September 26, 1939 - April 7, 2025
Lula Bell “Jackson” Carter, 85, of Elkhart, was called home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 7, 2025.
She was born September 26, 1939, in Covington, Tennessee to Louise and Alonzo Jackson, Sr. who preceded her in death. She left Tennessee and moved to Elkhart, Indiana around 1961. The rest of the family joined her soon after. I guess you could call her a trailblazer. Family was her greatest love. She married J.C. Carter on July 2, 1966 and together they raised two children: Raymond Carter and Maria Donyal (David) Gordon. She was blessed with two grandsons, Lucas and Christian, who meant the world to her.
Lula accepted Christ as her Savior as a young woman and His love shown through her as she walked through her life. She was a very dedicated individual and took all of her tasks seriously whether it was at home or on the job. She worked for 32 years before she retired from Elkhart Products Corporation where she did a myriad of jobs working on the manufacturing line to the boxing area. She loved people and they loved her because her inner beauty matched her outward beauty tenfold. She was a member of St. James AME Church for many years. Along with her husband she became a member of First Baptist Church. Never forgetting her roots she would often attend both churches on any given Sunday.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband JC, her son Raymond, her daughter Maria Donyal (David) Gordon, and two grandsons Lucas and Christian. She also leaves two sisters: Pearlene (Phil) Flake of Moscow Mills, MO and Yvonne Williams of Elkhart, IN; four brothers: James Jackson of Indianapolis, IN, Alonzo (Carnetis) Jackson, Jr, Rev. Charles B. (Malinda)Jackson, and Jerel (Eva) Jackson of Elkhart. One brother-in-law Charles Walker, and one sister-in-law Martha Irving.
Lula was also preceded in death by her beloved sister Christine Walker. She leaves to cherish her memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
