LEWIS F. SONNENBERG
October 27, 1927 – June 8, 2021
GOSHEN- Lewis F. Sonnenberg, 93, of Goshen, died peacefully from natural causes at 4:06 p.m. Tuesday June 8, 2021 at his home in Goshen surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born October 27, 1927, in Eaton Rapids, Michigan to Harold and Mabel Irene (Lemon) Sonnenberg.
He was not only a soldier of GOD, but he was also a highly decorated 3 war veteran serving during W.W.II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Upon his return from Vietnam his first wife passed away, leaving him a single father with 5 children which he raised to have integrity and respect towards everyone that came into their lives. He was a wonderful father and a great man who had a heart of gold. He will be dearly missed.
He was also dedicated to his church and community handing out guardian angel cards and spreading GODS word to whomever came across his path no matter if you were rich or poor. He was known as “THE ANGEL MAN”. God bless anyone who had the honor to meet him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Jacqualine, his second wife Zoela, and 2 sons Bradley and Steve. Surviving is a son, Chris (Rose) Sonnenberg of OK; 2 daughters, Gaylene (Ron) Hickman of Elkhart and Dawnna Sonnenberg of Goshen. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren which include Terry and Tommy Groves; 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.
Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home is entrusted with his care. Memorial contributions may be given to Heartland Hospice, 230 W. Catalpa Drive, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
A celebration of life service for Lewis will be held on Saturday June 19, 2021 at the Faith Christian Center, 1801 W. Clinton Street, Goshen, IN at 1:00 p.m.
Pastor Kenny Rogers will preside and full military honors will follow the service.
Friends may visit with the family for 1 hour prior to the service.
