LARRY R. HUNERYAGER
January 3, 1935 – July 5, 2020
ELKHART- Larry R. Huneryager, 85, of Elkhart, died Sunday July 5, 2020 at IU Health University Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born January 3, 1935 in Elkhart to K. Lamar & Lillian (Rowe) Huneryager.
Larry is survived by 3 nieces, Deb (Kent) Thomas of Syracuse, IN, Kathy (Bill) Kuehne and Linda (Quinn) Robertson both of Elkhart; his sister-in-law Betty Huneryager of Elkhart; numerous great nieces and nephews; numerous great great nieces and nephews and a great great great niece. He was preceded in death by his father K. Lamar Huneryager, his mother Lillian Beardsley, his brother William “Bill” Huneryager and his half-sister Anne Raven.
Larry graduated from Elkhart High School in 1953. He served in the US Army from 1957 – 1959. In 1961 he received a bachelor’s degree from Manchester College and in 1969 he received his master’s degree from Ball State University. Larry was a 6th grade schoolteacher for the Elkhart Community School System from 1961 – 1994, having taught at Eastwood Elementary School. He retired in 1994.
He was a life member of the Optimist International, a member of the Noon and Evening Elkhart Optimist Clubs, the Bristol American Legion, the Elkhart DAV Chapter #19, the Goshen Elks Lodge, the National Rifle Association and a life member of the National Education Association. He also did CARES Mentoring at Hawthorne Elementary School and was a member of Trinity UMC (now Trinity on Jackson) and he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday and from 10-11 a.m. Friday at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home (Face masks and social distancing are required). Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday July 10, 2020 at the funeral home. Pastor Tim Burchill from Trinity on Jackson will preside, and burial will follow in Rice Cemetery where full military honors will be rendered by the US Army Honor Guard and the Goshen VFW.
Memorial contributions may be given to Lifeline Ministries or the Faith Mission both in Elkhart.
