JOSEPH MITCHELL

June 7, 1928 – April 1, 2022

 

 

ELKHART- Joseph Mitchell, 93, of Elkhart, passed away Friday April 1, 2022, at his residence in Elkhart.  He was born June 7, 1928, in Chicago, IL to Joseph Mitchell and Emma Benjamin.  

     On March 31, 1956, he married Roberta Joan Bittner.  She preceded him in death on July 24, 2002.  He then married Sarah Cook on June 12, 2004.  She preceded him in death on March 16, 2016.  Surviving are 5 children, Joyce Roberts of Ft. Worth, TX, Joseph William Mitchell of Elkhart, David M. (Marcy) Mitchell, Debra A. (Tom) DeShone both of South Bend, Denise D. Hruska of Hebron, IN; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

     Joseph served in the United States Marine Corps and received an honorable discharge.  He received a bachelor’s degree in accounting, from Bradley University and a master’s degree in business management from Indiana University.  Joseph was a member of the NAA, a member of the Ace Investment Club, member of the Augustana Lutheran Church, the Elkhart Moose Lodge, Elkhart Elks Lodge, the VFW, American Legion, and the DAV.  He enjoyed golfing, traveling, listening to big band music, had an extensive record collection and was a volunteer for Meals-On-Wheels. 

     Joseph was a CPA and was the controller for the consumer products division at Miles (Now Bayer).

     Cremation will take place at Elkhart Cremation Services.  A celebration of life service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday April 5, 2022, at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home.  Sister Nora Frost will preside, and full military honors will end the service.  Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 p.m. till 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be private at a later date, at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola.

  Memorial contributions may be given to Heart-to-Heart Hospice or to Augustana Lutheran Church.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
