Johnnie Swain

February 19, 1944 – December 13, 2023

Johnnie Swain, 79, of Elkhart, passed away Wednesday December 13, 2023, with his daughter by his side. He was born on February 19, 1944 in Portsmouth, Virginia to Pauline Deaton.  On February 20, 1962, in Elizabeth City, NC, he married the love of his life, Yvonne Swain. She passed away last year. The surviving family is one daughter, Pamela (Steve) Coleman of Goshen, IN; 2 granddaughters, Kaitlyn Coleman of Goshen, IN and Mackinzie (Eric Eisman) Coleman of Mishawaka, IN; His brother in-law, Ivan (Nancy) Baker of Elkhart, IN and a brother, Philip (Jeanne) Swain of Suffolk, VA.    He is preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne Swain, his mother, Pauline Deaton, His brothers, R.S Swain, Lee Swain, and his sisters, Beatrice Rawles, Joan Merritt, and Florence Swain.

  Johnnie was a member of Calvary Assembly of God church for many years.  At one time, him and his wife taught 3rd grade Sunday school class there. He also worked for Holiday Rambler Corporation for over 30 years. He was a very hard worker and enjoyed any job that he did. Johnnie loved spending time with his family. Especially his granddaughters. He also loved all animals. He was especially fond of birds. He enjoyed watching birds during his final year of his life.

  The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 18, 2023, at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home, 700 E. Jackson Blvd., Elkhart, IN.  Graveside services will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery.  Pastor Nathan Whidden will officiate.  Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society or The Elkhart County Humane Society.
