John (Jack) Anthony Rolfsen Obituary
John (Jack) Anthony Rolfsen, 91, passed away on August 31st in Naples, Florida, after a brief illness. He was born on June 13th, 1933, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He married his childhood sweetheart, Betty Ann Pitzer, on April 11, 1953, at St. Roch’s Catholic Church in Indianapolis. He is survived by his wife Betty of 71 years, four daughters, Lynn (Mark) Obergfell, Kathy Gendron, Edith (Robert) Reiman, and Mary Jo (Douglas) Lantz, 15 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. One brother, Paul Rolfsen of Greenwood, Indiana also survives. Passing before him were his parents, George Sr. and Magdelen Wittekind Rolfsen, two brothers, George Jr. (Bud) and Sylvester (Sy), and three sisters, Mary Gough, Rose Sterret, and Terry Mappes and son-in-law, Glenn Gendron.
John grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, graduating from Sacred Heart High School and, after many evening classes, received an Associate’s degree from Indiana Central. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. After working at Allison’s and Ford Motor Company, he moved to Elkhart in 1968 to extend his career at Miles Laboratories as Assistant Director of Labor Relations. He retired from Miles in 1989. He was an avid golfer and was a member of Elk’s Lodge- Christiana Creek Country Club in Elkhart for 50 years and Highland Woods Golf & Country Club in Bonita Springs, Florida for 23 years. He thoroughly enjoyed his retirement years traveling about in their motor home, maintaining his yard and flowers, and spending time with family and friends at Fish Lake in White Pigeon, Michigan. He was also a member of St. Pius X Church in Granger, Indiana.
Memorials may be given to Riley’s Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday May 17, 2025 at St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 411 W. Vistula Street, Bristol, IN 46507. Fr. Bob VanKempen will preside, burial will follow at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart. Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home is entrusted with his care.
