Jerry T. Koontz

May 26, 1942-September 9, 2025

CASSOPOLIS, MI-Jerry T. Koontz, 83, passed away peacefully in the arms of his wife and partner of 50 years at his beloved lake home on September 9, 2025.  He was born in Elkhart on May 26, 1942.

  On December 31, 1977, in Elkhart he married Mary “Ginny” Vincent; she survives along with a daughter, Julie Black, 4 grandchildren, CaSandra Muncie, Michael (Stephanie) Muncie, Alicia Black, Kamrin Hyche, 5 great-grandchildren, and 4 nieces.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo & Elma (Rumsey) Koontz, daughter, Cindy, grandson, Eric, granddaughter, Heather, sister, Jeannine, and a brother, Jeffery.

  Jerry retired from CTS Corporation.  He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and spring mushroom hunter.  He and Ginny lived winter months in Cabo San Lucas for over 25 years, where he’d often be found fishing in the ocean and spending time with their many friends.  For 50 years during the summer Jerry would fly into the bush in Canada, fish and make camps for himself and his friends and family that went with him.  Jerry had many friends and was a wonderful family man that was always willing to help anyone and taught so many others about fishing and hunting, especially his grandchildren.

  He was an environmentalist and believed in the powers of nature.  Jerry and Ginny found the lake and land of their dreams where they have lived for the past 41 years.  While there they had a horse farm and they enjoyed that for many years.  He always made sure that the lake that he loved was always protected and preserved in its natural state.  This was truly his legacy! 

  Per his wishes cremation will take place and there will be no services.
