JAMES ROBERT BENNETT, JR.

June 14, 1954 – October 6, 2020

 

ELKHART- James Robert Bennett, Jr., 66, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday October 6, 2020 at his residence.  He was born June 14, 1954 in Mishawaka, IN to James Robert & Erbyl E. (Meyers) Bennett, Sr.

     On June 11, 1988 in South Bend, Indiana he married Donna M. Manion.  She survives along with 8 children, Kelly L. Bennett of royal Center, IN, Cocheta M. (Brian) Pickell, Jr. of Henderson, IN, Jory J. Bennett, Takala M. Bennett both of Elkhart, IN, Breanne M. (Jordan) Kinder of Wauseon, OH, Kelsey M. (Timothy) mast of Elkhart, IN, Takoda J. (Maria) Bennett of White Pigeon, MI, Rae Ann (Shane) Dill of South Bend, IN and 15 grandchildren.  Additional survivors include 7 siblings, Marilyn (Art) Brown of AZ, Joyce (Rick) Cain of OK, Kathy Jo Thomas of TN, Susan Green of Elkhart, IN, Charles (JuLee) Bennett of MI, Roger (Lisa) Stewart of MI, Anna Paris of GA; numerous nieces & nephews, great nieces and great nephews and great great nieces and nephews.   He was preceded in death by his father, James Robert Bennett, Sr., his mother Erbyl E. Stewart, his stepfather, Harry Stewart, a sister, Lois Canen and his brother-in-law, Fred Canen.

     James was a US Army veteran, a member of the DAV,  he enjoyed reading, history, listening to music, and grilling.  He also liked telling jokes and stories, spending time with his family and was known as Grand-Poop by his grandchildren.  Jim was employed as a truck driver and a forklift operator.

     Funeral services will be held at Noon Friday October 9, 2020 at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home.  Friends may visit with the family for 2 hours prior to the service.  Burial will take place at Prairie Street Cemetery where there will be full military honors rendered.

     Memorial contributions may be given to the Wounded Warrior Program.
