Howard I. Baldwin
September 20, 1931 – August 3, 2024

Howard I. Baldwin, 92, passed into eternal life August 3, 2024, at his home in Elkhart.
  He was born September 20, 1931, in Effingham, Illinois to Otto and Elizabeth (Schoen) Baldwin.  On June 20, 1953, he married Janice Buick.  She survives along with 5 children, Charles Baldwin, Martin Baldwin, Carlyn Gilmore, Monika Friend, and Lisa Taylor, 15 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren.  Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Otto in 1979 and Elizabeth in 1976.  
  Howard studied for two years at Manchester College.  It was at this time he was born again at the Billy Sunday Tabernacle at Winona Lake.  He left Manchester College to study at Moody Bible Institute for 2 years.  There he met and married Janice. 
  After a series of moves, they settled in Goshen and finally Elkhart.  As a livelihood, he devoted himself to serving the community as a residential painter.  He served two contractors, Eugene Carl and Alexander Jansen.  Then in 1979 he began his own business, Baldwin painting.  Howard served well into his 80’s investing his life building a painting service of integrity.  
  He devoted himself to his wife of 71 years as she served as a nurse for 35 years.  They enjoyed many motorcycle trips out west together.  
  He was a man of faith as he involved himself in the life of the local church.  His acts of self-giving and service are a legacy.  
  Active in his family, he inspired not only his immediate family but often impacted those without a family.  He will be missed but his powerful impact will carry on in those who know him. 
  A Celebration of Life service will be held Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Tri Lakes Community Church at 11 a.m.
Burial will be held Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at 3 p.m. at the Little Pine Cemetery.  Presiding both services will be Pastor Lester Sumrall.
