HELEN L. HARNESS
August 3, 1932 – February 12, 2023
Helen L. Harness, of Columbia, TN, formerly of Elkhart, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2023, at her residence in Columbia, TN. She was born on August 3, 1932, in Goshen to Paul and Phoebe (Brenneman) Ummel.
On June 14, 1958, she married the late Rev. Glenn Harness in Elkhart.
She was a graduate of Goshen High School, attended Bethel College and was a graduate of Ball State University. She was employed as a librarian with Marion Community Schools for more than 21 years.
Survivors include her daughter, Marcia (Michael) Daugherty of Columbia, TN; son, Mark (Suzette) Harness of Punta Gorda, FL; brother, J. Wesley (Joan) Ummel of Little Rock, AR; 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Miriam Belt.
The family will receive friend 1 hour prior to the 11:00 am funeral service on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home, 700 East Jackson Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46516. Pastor Donald Brenneman will officiate. Interment will follow at Adamsville Cemetery.
