Harry Richard Moskowitz
Elkhart- Harry R. Moskowitz, 90, of Elkhart passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday morning, February 26, 2023, of natural causes.
He was born on November 6, 1932, in Middlesex, New Jersey to Gregory & Stella (Kulpak) Moskowitz. Through his Aunt Julia, he met and moved to Elkhart to be with the love of his life. He married Jean (Knudson) Moskowitz on October 7, 1961, in Elkhart. They were married 55 years. She preceded him in death on July 30, 2017. They are survived by 2 children, Lorie (Moskowitz) Tubbs, & Richard (Christine) Moskowitz, 4 grandchildren; Natasha (Brent) Cummings, Michael Kinsey, Erica Moskowitz, & Amber (Stephen) Fort, along with 6 great-children; Johntu, Julius, Jalen, Cameela, Troy, and Jocelyn. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Charles (Bub) Moskowitz.
He graduated in 1951 from Bound Brook High School in New Jersey. Once he graduated, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1955 as an A/2C, and in the reserves until 1959. During his service, he earned the Good Conduct & National Defense Service Medals. After he was honorably discharged, he went to Radio-Television Institute in Newark, NJ. He then worked at Gulton Industries from 1957 to 1961. When he and his wife moved back to Elkhart, he worked at GTE (Verizon) for 24 ½ years on telephone switches and circuits until he retired on December 31, 1991.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. He and Jean were a part of the Michiana Orchid Society, he was a lifetime member of the Elkhart Moose #599, & a Cubmaster for the Cub Scouts. He was a quiet man who enjoyed his time dancing with his wife, traveling with his family, especially to the ocean, watching westerns, and eating M&M’s. He will be greatly missed!
Visitation will be at Walley-Mills Zimmerman Funeral Home in Elkhart from 12:30-1:30 p.m., on Thursday, March 2, 2023. The service will follow with Sister Nora Frost from Grace Lutheran Church officiating. The burial will be with full military honors at Rice Cemetery afterwards.
