Gwen Helen Spretnjak

ELKHART–Gwen Helen Spretnjak, 66, passed away May 19, 2023, at the Center for Hospice Care, Raclin House in Mishawaka.  She was born January 10, 1957, in Elkhart to the late Steve and Helen (Sieron) Spretnjak.

Surviving are four siblings: Gail (Joseph) Hickner, Stephen Spretnjak, Gregory (Mary) Spretnjak, and Michael Spretnjak, three nephews: Paul Hickner, Mark (Eva) Spretnjak, William Spretnjak, and one niece: Elizabeth Spretnjak.  Also surviving are her two dearest cousins, Paul Druga and Carolyn Bakewell, as well as many other relatives and friends. 

Gwen spent her career in materials management and manufacturing with several major companies, most recently working for AM General for over eight years.  She was a leader and trainer for APICS and ASCM (the American Production and Inventory Control Society and Association for Supply Chain Management).

Gwen enjoyed the water and watersports, especially scuba diving.  She volunteered for many organizations, and was a member of several service organizations including the Elkhart Evening Optimist Club and the Heaton Lake Conservation Club.

Gwen was the true definition of a friend. She had many social groups including Diners Club, the Warsaw Girls, the Wine and Whiners, Sunday breakfast, Optimists, and many more. She nurtured her friendships and brought people from all her social groups together.  Gwen always put others before herself.  She will be greatly missed!

Cremation has taken place and visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday, June 9, 2023 at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home in Elkhart with praying of the Rosary at 7 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2023 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Elkhart.  Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery at Notre Dame.   Rev. Brian Ching, CSC will preside at all the services.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the Raclin Murphy Museum of Art at Notre Dame (formerly known as the Snite Museum) or the Elkhart Evening Optimist Club.
