Edward B. Keim Sr.
4/24/1940 – 7/16/2023
Edward "Eddie" B. Keim Sr. was called home on Sunday, July 16th, 2023, at the age of 83, in Elkhart, IN, where he was a life-long resident.
Eddie was born in Nappanee, IN, to Alfred and Mary Keim on April 24th, 1940. He graduated from Nappanee High School, where he excelled in athletics and was a three-sport letterman.
He considered himself fortunate to be involved in the construction and building industry for over 50 years. Together with his son, Ed Jr, they formed Ed Keim Construction, allowing them the opportunity to build several commercial projects throughout the Midwest and many custom homes in Elkhart and the surrounding area. Eddie retired in 2006 due to health issues.
In his spare time, Eddie enjoyed collecting pocketknives and guns and regularly attended local gun shows to buy and sell. He also loved having a good garage sale and in his own words, loved to "wheel and deal". He may have missed his calling as a salesman.
But mostly, Eddie really enjoyed a fast car. He was an avid drag racer, and throughout the course of his life, he was proud to have owned many Corvettes and Camaros. He was also very pleased to hand down his love of cars to his son, and they enjoyed many years together pursuing that hobby.
Eddie leaves behind a sister, Pat (Dave) Leichtman, of Queen Creek, AZ, a brother, Alfred Keim Jr, of Nappanee, IN, a son, Ed Jr (Pam) Keim, of Edwardsburg, MI, three grandchildren, Dana Keim, Jessica Keim, and Kaylee Keim, and a daughter, Julie Keim, of Lagrange, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Mary Keim, and his wife, Helen Elrod Keim.
Despite many health setbacks, Eddie kept a positive "can't get me down" attitude and tried to enjoy life every day, even when it wasn't easy for him. He was the life of the party and always there to help, willing to give you the shirt off his back. His friendly nature and warm smile will be missed by all that knew him.
A viewing will be held Thursday, 7/20, from 5 PM-7 PM and Friday, 7/21, from 12 PM-1 PM, followed by a funeral at 1 PM at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home in Elkhart, IN. Entombment will take place at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart, IN.
