Doris J. O’Brien, 98, passed away December 13, 2021, at her home in Elkhart. She was born December 1, 1923, in Edwardsburg, MI to Earl & Rosa (Kreischer) Oaks.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Frank Krawiec, second husband, William O’Brien on July 21, 2021, 2 sons; David and Jeffrey Krawiec, a stepdaughter; Patricia, 3 brothers; Vern, Sam and Lawrence Oaks, and 2 sisters; Anna and Evelyn.
Surviving are 4 children, Ronald (Rita) Krawiec of Sanford, MI, Sharon Brown, Carol (Dan) Pessefall both of Elkhart, Steve (Melanie) Krawiec of Oshkosh, WI; daughter in law Deb Krawiec of Elkhart; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are 2 stepsons, Timothy (Lesa) O’Brien of Elkhart, Daniel O’Brien of New Castle, IN; a step son-in-law Kimothy Moser and a step grandson Anthony (Meghan) O’Brien of Maryland.
Doris was a homemaker that enjoyed raising her 6 children; spent over 40 years caring for her quadriplegic son, David. Doris was a member of the Moose Lodge, Elkhart D.A.V. and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bristol. She was a devote Catholic and loved her family and grandchildren with all her heart. She enjoyed gardening, bingo, ballroom dancing, cooking and baking. Doris was known for her pies especially her famous Peanut Butter Pie that the family would always request.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 5-7 p.m. with the rosary being recited at 6:45 p.m. Monday December 20, 2021, at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bristol. Friends may visit with the family for 30 minutes prior to the Mass on Tuesday at the church. Fr. Dermot will preside, and burial will follow at St. Vincent Cemetery in Elkhart.
