DONALD EUGENE STEVEN

July 23, 1934 – November 26, 2022

CASSOPOLIS, MI- Donald Eugene Steven, 88, of Cassopolis, Michigan, passed away Saturday November 26, 2022, at his residence in Cassopolis, MI.  he was born July 23, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois to Daniel & Hazel (Gardner) Steven.

     On June 3, 1957, in Chicago, IL he married Patricia G. Carapezza.  She preceded him in death on September 5, 2019, in Elkhart, IN.  surviving are 6 children, Kurt (Marcelene) Steven of Cassopolis, MI, Diana (Bob) Skarwecki of Winimac, IN, John Steven of Chicago, IL, Donna Steven of Lynwood, IL, Darlene (Mike) LeCroy of South Gate, MI, Joe Steven of Goshen, IN; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and 1 sister, Betty Withers of Elkhart, IN.  he was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Patricia and a grandson, David Steven who passed away on June 9, 2017.

     Don served in the United States Navy and received an honorable discharge in 1961.  He enjoyed metal detecting, home improvement projects and collecting coins.  Don was an avid fisherman and in his younger years in the winter he would freeze his back yard so the family could enjoy ice skating and playing hockey.  Don was an avid Chicago Black Hawks fan.

     Don worked for 18 years at Swift (Wanzer) Ice Cream and was a union steward.  He also worked for 15 years in maintenance at the Seton Academy in South Holland, MI.

     Funeral services for Don will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday December 1, 2022, at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home.  Pastor Keith McFarren from Bethel United Methodist Church will preside and burial with full military honors will follow at Rice Cemetery.  Friends may visit with the family for 2 hours prior to the start of the service at the funeral home.
