Dennis R. “Linc” Pontius

March 8, 1949 – May 24, 2020

Elkhart- Dennis R. “Linc” Pontius, 71, of Elkhart, passed away Sunday May 24, 2020 at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.  He was born March 8, 1949 in Elkhart to Donald Ray & Mary Florence (Jones) Pontius.

     On September 5, 1970 in Elkhart he married Zita R. Went.  She survives along with 2 children, Dennis R. (Sandi) Pontius, Jr., of Granger, IN and Laura M. Lunsford of Elkhart, IN; 5 grandchildren, Nicole (Nick) Jamiel ,Alyssa Lunsford, Marley Pontius, Scotty Lunsford and Will Pontius; one great grandson Avery Lunsford.  Also surviving is a brother and a sister.  Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, his youngest brother, and son-in-law; Bill Lunsford.

     Dennis graduated from Jimtown High School in 1967.  He was a volunteer firefighter for Cleveland Township Fire Department for over 20 years, a member of the Elkhart Moose Lodge #599, a member of the Osceola American Legion Post #308 and a former member of the Elkhart Lions Club.  Dennis enjoyed working on his yard which was kept like a carpet, was an avid Notre Dame, Green Bay Packer and New York Yankee fan.  He also enjoyed bowling, was an avid fisherman, liked working in his garden, but most of all loved to spend time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren.

     Dennis worked in sales at Pickrell’s Green House, was the owner of Den’s Wholesale Foliage and was an over the road truck driver for Ganiey/Super Service for 30 years.  After his retirement he was a truck driver for Classic Transport.

     Private family visitation and services will be held on Friday May 29, 2020 at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home.  Pastor Brian Whidden from Calvary Assembly of God will preside and burial will follow at Olive (West)Cemetery.

     A celebration of life service for family and friends will be Saturday, June 20, 2020 at his home from 2:00p.m. ~ 5:00 p.m.   Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association.
