Connie Malloy

October 23, 1949 – August 21, 2023

After over 46 years of marriage, Connie Malloy (73) and Dennis Malloy (76) unexpectedly passed away in their home on August 21, 2023, as the result of a tragic and devastating accident. Connie and Dennis lived with their two dogs, Henry and Daisy, whom they loved and cared for deeply who passed with them.

Connie and Dennis centered their life around their children and grandchildren. They left this world full of the love their family poured onto them. They are survived by their children Michael (Beth) Malloy of Elkhart, IN, Carey (John) Malloy of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Mindi (Greg) Dugard of St. Petersburg, FL, and Michelle (Todd) Crussemeyer of Elkhart, IN. They were further survived by their grandchildren Megan, Andrew, Hadley, Madison, Mathew, Ellie, Ally, Bella, and Max. Additionally, Connie was survived by her sisters Linda House and Mary (Bob) Lee. Dennis was survived by his sister, Teri (Sal) Magana.

Connie was born October 23, 1949, in Malta, TX. Connie graduated from Concord High School in 1967. She then went on to receive her Bachelor of Science in Labor Studies from Indiana University in 1992. Connie worked at Whitehall Laboratories from 1968-1990 where she was union president. As union president, Connie led the fight against Whitehall when their plan to shut down the plant would have left 800 Elkhart natives with nothing. Connie led the negotiation that resulted in a $24 million settlement. Connie went on to be the International Representative for the United Steelworkers where she retired. Connie had a deep passion for protecting the rights of her fellow coworkers and employees. She was a pioneer in her field, and when she believed in something, she fought until the very end.

Connie was fiercely devoted to her family. She was the ultimate role model for her children and grandchildren. She had an infectious laugh and lit up every room she entered. She lived life to the fullest and made an impact on everyone she touched. Connie was taken before her time and will be deeply missed by all. 

A visitation for Connie and Dennis will be held at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman, 700 E Jackson Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46516, on Thursday, August 31, 2023, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Immediately following the visitation, there will be a celebration of life memorial service from 4:00pm to 5:00pm. All friends and family are welcome to attend.
