Charmayne L. Jackson

April 14, 1946 – March 17, 2025

Charmayne L. Jackson, 78, of Elkhart died Monday, March 17th, 2025, at the Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart. She was born April 14th, 1946, in Elkhart, IN to Roy W. and Virginia E. (Melbe) Huff.

On October 28, 1966, in Washington D.C. she married the love of her life and beloved husband, Richard, sharing 53 years of marriage.

Though a retired homemaker since 2007, Charmayne worked 19 yrs for Whitehall Laboratories. Later, she worked for OSMC as an office assistant, and in surgical dispatch for The Elkhart Clinic.

One of Charmayne's most commendable accomplishments was a classically trained concert pianist and was accepted to The Juilliard School of Music as a young woman. Her profound love for music shone brightest when she shared her talent, whether filling a church with the warmth of holiday melodies or at home with the solace of her many favorite pieces.

Beyond her musical gifts, Charmayne embraced life's simple pleasures. She found joy in her weekly hair appointments and monthly pampering sessions, and her collection of shoes and purses was legendary. Her passion for magazines, particularly Women's World, Good Housekeeping, and Family Circle, filled her home with stacks of cherished editions. A voracious reader, she favored nonfiction, especially medical memoirs, and health-related books.

Charmayne, though not renowned for her cooking prowess, she loved sweets and held a secret weapon: her pumpkin cake. A masterpiece of warm spices, crunchy pecans, and decadent cream cheese frosting, it was the stuff of family lore, a beloved indulgence that graced many birthdays, holidays, and impromptu gatherings.

She was proceeded in death by both parents Roy and Virginia, and her husband, Richard.

Charmayne is survived by her two children: daughter Angela Jackson, and son Richard "Rich" Jackson Jr. Two grandchildren: Alexxus Jackson and London Jackson.

Services will be held at Wally-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home on Saturday, March 29th @ 1pm. Officiated by Rev. Dr. Dannell Brown. Visitation will be held from 11am - 1pm.
