CAROLYN MAE CATON

September 10, 1931 – October 1, 2023

ELKHART- Carolyn Mae (Peterson) Caton, 92, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2023. She was born in Elkhart on September 10, 1931, to the late Martha and August Peterson. She was joined 7 years later by a brother, James Arthur Peterson, a long-time pediatrician in Elkhart. They were a close-knit and loving family. After graduating with honors from Elkhart High School, she enrolled at Indiana University, Bloomington where she was affiliated with Chi Omega sorority.

Upon returning to Elkhart, she met and married the love of her life, Carter L. Caton, a graduate of Manchester College. They built a lovely home in Elkhart where they raised their family of three elected president. Carolyn joined the 4-Arts Club and worked at the Midwest Museum of Art. They both did charitable work for the Salvation Army. She and Carter traveled extensively in this country, Europe and the islands.

Ten years after Carter’s death she married Joe Pindell (originally from Elkhart) and moved to Indianapolis where she lived with him until his death twelve years later. She then returned to Elkhart and moved into Brentwood Apartments where she lived until her death.

She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Alan Caton and David Carter Caton and her daughter, Callie Dru Caton, as well as grandsons Grant Alexander Caton, Ross Cameron Caton and Ramon Carter Caton.

Walley-Mills Zimmerman Funeral Home will be in charge of funeral arrangements. There will be no church service or visitation. A short service will take place at Rice Cemetery where she will be buried alongside her husband, Carter.
