Elkhart -Beverly J. Smeltzer Peterson, 79, passed away January 5, 2025, at her home in Elkhart.  She was born March 8, 1945, in Elkhart to John & Ruth (Dunithan) Reiner.

  On August 20, 1961 she married Glennis Smeltzer; he preceded her in death.  On March 24, 2012 she married Richard “Pete” Peterson; he preceded her in death as well.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, 2 children, Todd Smeltzer, Renee Smeltzer, and a sister, Katherine Reiner.

  Surviving are 3 children, Lawanna (Tim) Price, Gene (Kathy Miller) Smeltzer, Christy Grooms, 7 grandchildren, Christopher, Allen “Levi”, Megan, Hope “Stormie”, Dalton, Jason, Cassie, and 2 great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are 2 brothers, John Reiner, Larry Reiner, several close friends, and her beloved companions, Yahzi, Claude, and Rattles.

  Beverly was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.  She enjoyed shopping, watching movies at home with popcorn, and spending time with her family.  Beverly also had an affection for animals and will be remembered for her joyful and positive spirit. She was a beautiful example of a true matriarch and her presence will forever be missed.

  Memorial contributions may be given to the Elkhart County Humane Society in honor of her beloved pet she has received from there.

  Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the 12-noon funeral service at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home on Friday, January 10, 2025.  Burial will follow in Prairie Street Cemetery.
