Betty Ann Pitzer Rolfsen, 91, passed away on March 7, 2025 in Naples, Florida after a brief illness. She was born on May 20, 1933 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She married her childhood sweetheart, John (Jack) Anthony Rolfsen on April 11, 1953 at St. Roch’s Catholic Church in Indianapolis.
She is survived by her four daughters, Lynn (Mark) Obergfell, Kathy Gendron, Edith (Robert) Reiman, and Mary Jo (Douglas) Lantz, 15 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren with two more due to arrive in June. Her surviving siblings are Katherine Forestal, Fred Pitzer, Jr., both of Indianapolis, Indiana and William Pitzer of Maryland. Passing before her was her husband of 71 years, her parents Fred, Sr. and Ann Thuer Pitzer, sisters, Mary Jane (Teeny) Manning and Joan McVey and son-in-law Glenn Gendron.
Betty grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana graduating from Sacred Heart High School. In her early adult years, she was an organist at St. Roch’s Catholic Church. She worked briefly at Allison’s in Indianapolis before becoming a full-time homemaker. She moved to Elkhart, Indiana following Jack’s career path to Miles Laboratories in 1968.
She was a member of the Rosary Society at St. Thomas the Apostle in Elkhart. She was an avid golfer enjoying many rounds at Elkhart’s Christiana Creek Country Club and Highland Woods Golf and Country Club in Bonita Springs, Florida. She enjoyed planning trips and traveling adventures, especially in their motor home. Weekends in the summers were spent at Fish Lake in White Pigeon, Michigan enjoying family and friends. She was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church in Granger, Indiana.
Memorials may be given to Riley’s Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday May 17, 2025 at St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 411 W. Vistula Street, Bristol, IN 46507. Fr. Bob VanKempen will preside, burial will follow at Rice cemetery in Elkhart. Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home is entrusted with her care.
