Amber Sinning Obituary

Amber Dian Sinning (Keim), 72, of Elkhart, Indiana, passed away on Monday October 4, 2021. She was born to Harold Lavon Keim and (Bessie) Irene Keim (Windsor) and grew up in Elkhart.

It was always her lifelong goal to become a Mother and so she took every home economics class she could in school to prepare. She graduated from Elkhart High School in 1967.

Although they likely crossed paths before, she met her husband, John Sinning, around their 40th high school reunion. They were then married on March 1, 2011. Some of their favorite times together included ballroom dancing where she enjoyed wearing nice jewelry and fancy dresses. They often traveled to go antiquing and yachting with friends. She loved lakes, rivers, and creeks equally.

Alongside John, she was an active member of Northside Baptist Church and regularly visited people who were sick.

Amber’s humility and selflessness made her the best Mother and friend you could find. She always had a way of making people feel special and thanked everyone for everything: for calling her on the phone, for stopping to visit, and even the nurses who took care of her in her final days.

In social settings, she spent time making sure that she talked to every person. Amber always went out of her way to help give advice and assistance anytime anyone needed it. Everyone who ever met her thought she was the nicest person they had ever met.

Despite her own recent cancer diagnosis, she was still more concerned about other people’s well being than her own and continually told them she would pray for them. She said to many people “Either I’m here or I’m in heaven with Jesus” and she told her doctor “It is what it is, God is still in control.”

Her presence on Earth will be deeply missed by her family and friends. We have all been made better just by knowing her.

She always prayed for those who did not know Jesus. In fact, some of her last words to family strongly emphasized her desire to see them in Heaven. Amber would want those left behind to know that she ‘graduated’ to heaven.

She is survived by her husband, John; her son Brian Barnard and wife Andrea; her son Scott Barnard and fiance Bonnie Reed; her daughter Heather Amber Goble-Sorrells and husband Jesse; and her sister Janice Ostrom (Keim) and husband Dale. She has 6 grandchildren: Mitchell Barnard, Kaitlyn McCreary (Barnard), Nicholas Barnard, Alexis Sorrells, Caleb Barnard, and Lincoln Sorrells; 2 great grandchildren: Ryker Neice and Amelia McCreary; and great nephew: Christopher James Peepers.

Services for Amber will be Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Northside Baptist Church on C.R. 9 in Elkhart at 12:00 p.m. (noon).  Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service at the church.  Pastor Carl Henry will preside. Burial will follow at Rice Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to Northside Baptist Church and or The Center for Hospice Care.
