ALTA LEONA POWELL

November 20, 1943 – October 28, 2023

ELKHART- Alta Leona Powell, 79, of Elkhart, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Elkhart General Hospital surrounded by loved ones.

She was born November 20, 1943, in Ward, West Virginia to the late Clarence L. and Mabel Wilson (Proffit) Baker.  Alta is survived by her siblings Anna Sue Cook of Elkhart, Lavona Rose (Danny) Sorg of Adamsville, TN, Carolyn Louise Collins of Elkhart, Wendy Warren (Betty) Baker of Elkhart, Nancy Jean (Bill) Walterhouse of Middlebury, IN, and Larry Wilson Baker of South Bend, IN and a host of extended family and friends.

    Alta was preceded in death by her loving son Robert Lee Powell III, her parents Clarence & Mabel Baker; sisters Virginia Mary Bryant, Janet Lucy McGlone; her brother Elmer Leslie Baker; 2 brothers-in-law, Conley Cook and Colburn Bryant and her sister-in-law Helen Love.

     Alta was loved by everyone that knew her.  She had a very kind soul and truly loved all her family and friends unconditionally.

     Cremation will take place and a celebration of life service will be held at a later date.  Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home is entrusted with her care.
