ELKHART- Albert “Al” Carpenter, 78, of Elkhart, passed away Monday July 3, 2023, at Elkhart General Hospital.  He was born December 26, 1944, in Tyronza, Arkansas to Felix & Lillie (Smith) Carpenter, Jr.


     On April 10, 1971, in Elkhart, Indiana he married Bertha L. Carter.  She survives along with 3 children, Michael A. Carpenter, Ruben A. (Amber Wilson) Carpenter both of Elkhart, Marcus P. (Tara) Carpenter of Corcoran, MN; 10 grandchildren, Tyler Carpenter, Landon Wilson, Brandon Clady, Chance Carpenter, Kyleigh Wilson, Chandler Carpenter, Jadyn Carpenter, Gianna Carpenter, Norah Carpenter, Amorra Carpenter and 1 great-grandson, Jaxon Carpenter.  Additional survivors include his god daughter, Joy (Jimmie) Calixte of Ruskin, FL; 2 brothers, Joe L. (Lula) Carpenter and Ulice (Janice) Carpenter both of Battle Creek, MI; 1 sister, Phebie Hall of Pontiac, MI; a brother-in-law, Marvin Carter of Indianapolis and a sister-in-law, Patricia (Mark) Simmons of Granger, IN.  He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister, Esther Mosby, 1 brother, Felix Carpenter, III and his 2 brothers-in-law, Robert Hall Sr. and Fred Carter Jr.


     Albert was a US Army veteran who was honorably discharged.  He was a member of Canaan Baptist Church, a member of Sportsman Big Ten and a member of the Breakfast Club.  Al enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, and spending time with his family.  He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Wisconsin Badgers.  Albert loved talking on his CB radio and had the handle of “Triple 4”.  He worked for Richardson, Conrail, Uniroyal and retired from Royal Adhesive.


     Visitation for family and friends will be from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday July 7, 2023, and from 11-Noon on Saturday July 8, 2023, at the Canaan Baptist Church, 933 Fieldhouse Ave., Elkhart, Indiana.  His going home service will start at Noon Saturday at the church.  Pastor McNeal Stewart III will officiate the service and Pastor Michael Carpenter will render the eulogy.  Burial will follow in Prairie Street Cemetery where there will be full military honors rendered.
