Terry Bender Obituary

Terry Christian Bender, 71, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 16, 2018 after a sudden illness. He was born December 5, 1946 to Christian & Elaine (Eimer) Bender, who lovingly cared for Terry until their deaths; were some of first to greet him. Terry was loved by many people as he knew no stranger and went just about everywhere with his dad. He had such a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. He loved to tease and to be teased. He enjoyed watching Andy Griffin and Don Knotts. He knew each episode by heart and would repeat the dialog with the actors. Terry had a big habit of telling people who cooked his favorite meals, especially mom who often cooked, of just how good everything taste and how she was a good baker. His favorite things were to watch baseball (the white sox where his favorite team), music, cars, trains and of course food. For most of his life he attended Simonton Lake Baptist Church where he loved to sing. He lived at home with his folks until their deaths, then Aunt Donna Bender was his caregiver for 2 years until a place opened up for him at Shepherds Baptist Ministries in Union Grove, WI. He was there for 23 years until last December when he moved back to this area to a group home. What a joy it is to know that he is with the Lord, his folks, and is no longer mentally challenged. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the 3 p.m. funeral service Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. Presiding will be Pastor Michael Bender from the Mottville Bible Church. Burial will be held at a later date in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank all those at the Trowbridge House in South Bend who helped care for Terry, the Dungarvin Organization, the hospital staff and paramedics who cared for him on Friday. He was preceded in death by his parents, both sets of grandparents, Mildred King, Kenneth King, Nelson Bender and Edna Bender. Surviving is his sister, Janice Ramsey of Elkhart, an uncle, Keith (Rochelle) King of Orlando, FL, 2 nephews, Mark (Margaret) Ramsey of Canton, GA, Joel (Connie) Ramsey of Elkhart, great-nephew, Zachary (Kaitlyn) Ramsey of Augusta, GA and a great-niece, Abigail Ramsey of Dahlonega, GA.
