Rose M. Gillingham August 14, 1924-April 18, 2019 ELKHART-Rose M. Gillingham, 94, passed away April 18, 2019 at Woodland Manor. She was born August 14, 1924 in Elkhart to John & Vinnia (Goldy) Mapes. On August 31, 1940 she married George D. Gillingham; he preceded her in death on May 12, 1992. She was also preceded in death by her parents, 2 sons, George E. Gillingham, Larry G. Gillingham, 22 brothers and sisters. Surviving is 1 daughter, Janet (Charles) Mark,1 daughter-in-law, Winnie Gillingham, 6 grandchildren, Fred Mark, Staci Franson, Troy Gillingham, Stephanie Lerner, Darnel Brooks, Todd Gillingham, 6 great-grandchildren and several great great-grandchildren. Rose worked at Elkhart General Hospital and owned Second Hand Rose store in Elkhart. She was also a former member of Northside Church of the Nazarene and was recognized in the newspaper for the astounding work she did in the 1950's when she was the chairman of the "Teenage March of Dimes". She was also recognized in another article for being a wonderful member of society and a true family woman. She was also very thrifty and enjoyed going to garage sales in her spare time. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the 12 noon funeral service Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. Presiding will be Pastor Tim Sheets from Northside Church of the Nazarene and burial will follow in Rice Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please send memorial contributions to March of Dimes or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
