Jean Humbarger

ELKHART- Jean (Radabaugh) Humbarger, 93, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully Friday, February 23, 2018 at her home. She was born October 14, 1924 in Auburn, Indiana to the late Verna Basil & Martha Grace (Hamshire) Radabaugh. On June 16, 1946 in Elkhart she married William LeRoy Humbarger. He preceded her in death on August 29, 1991 in Elkhart. She was also preceded in death by two great-grandchildren. Surviving is a son, Grant (Debra) Humbarger of Elkhart; 3 grandchildren, Amy (Clay) Lewis of Pittsboro, IN, Valerie (Kyle) Hallowell of Avon, IN, Laura Humbarger of LaPorte, IN and 5 great-grandchildren, Noah, Elijah, James, Anna and Micah. She graduated from Elkhart High School in 1943 and then from Elkhart Business College in 1945. She was employed as an Elkhart County Clerk, Quincy Bank Teller, and Miles Laboratory where she retired after 18 years. She enjoyed playing the guitar and singing and was also a part of the Hilo Hawaiian Vocal and String Band from 1938-1941. This group was featured on WTRC and WLS radio programs. Jean was a member of the Starlight Chapter #181 O.E.S., former member of the Elkhart General Hospital Auxiliary and participated in the Elkhart County Historical Society. She was an active member in her Sunday school group at First Baptist Church in Bristol and attended there for many years. Throughout Jean's life, she displayed a dedication to God, family, a strong work ethic, and charity to her fellow man. Visitation for family and friends will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. There will be an O.E.S. memorial service for Jean at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at the funeral home. Pastor John Blodgett from the First Baptist Church will preside and burial will follow in Prairie Street Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Starlight Chapter #181 O.E.S.
