James "Jim" R. Merryfield

James "Jim" R. Merryfield, 62, of Elkhart, passed away suddenly Sunday, July 23rd, 2017, at his home. He died peacefully, after a few months of deteriorating health. Jim was born on June 13th, 1955, in Elkhart, Indiana to Elgie and Margaret (Sidney) Merryfield. Survivors include his father, Elgie Merryfield of South Bend; siblings Bill Merryfield of South Bend, Jay Merryfield of Elkhart, and Jenny (Joe) Corpe of Norton Shores, MI; niece Tana (David) Fager of Nappanee; nephews Eddie (Laura) Merryfield and Kurt Merryfield, both of Bradenton, FL, and Jasper Corpe of Norton Shores; plus many great nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Merryfield. Jim graduated from Elkhart Central H. S. and was a home remodeler by trade. He was an all-around sports enthusiast (favoring the Packers and Cubs) who could be counted on to host his AFC/NFC Championship party each year. In his prime he loved golfing, softball, and a nice game of bocce ball. He enjoyed bachelorhood with his beloved dogs (aka "kids") Joppy, Scooter, and Jerry Lee. The memory of Jim's jovial spirit, and his tenderheartedness towards animals, will live forever in our hearts. Following cremation, no formal services will be performed. Instead, a gathering of family and friends will be held at Bill Merryfield's home at 218 Chapin St., South Bend, IN on Sunday, Aug. 13th, from 1-5.
