Willastyne Shelton Carter

April 2, 1938 – March 20, 2024

Willastyne Shelton Carter, 85, of Elkhart, Indiana, peacefully transitioned on March 20, 2024, at Elkhart General Hospital with her daughter by her side. Born on April 2, 1938, in Plantersville, Alabama, she was the fifth child of ten born to Thomas Andrew Shelton and Christiana (Harville) Shelton.

Her family moved to Three Rivers, Michigan, during her early elementary years. She graduated from Three Rivers High School in 1958 and then relocated to Elkhart, where she worked as a nanny for a prominent family. Willastyne later joined CTS Corporation, retiring after 30 years.

On June 11, 1960, she married Sterling Carter, who preceded her in death after 44 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by eight siblings and her son Christopher, who blessed her with grandchildren Dominique and Noah.

Left to cherish her memory are daughter Kimberly of Los Angeles, grandchildren Dominique and Noah, and sister Doris (Shelton) Rollerson of Chicago. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Celebration of Life services are scheduled for Tuesday, April 2, at the Omega Event Center in Elkhart, IN, at 12:30 pm, family and friends may arrive 1 hour prior.  The arrangements have been entrusted to Walley-Mills- Zimmerman Funeral Home.
