WAKARUSA-Carolyn “Carol” E. Dalpe, 76, passed away March 30, 2024, at The Waters of Wakarusa. She was born November 21, 1947, in Washington, DC to Rene “Ray” & Stella (Kuusisto) Dalpe.
On August 13, 1978, she married Dwayne Melvin; he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Surviving is a sister, Cynthia (Nelson) Coble, an uncle, Gerald (Linda) Dalpe of South Windsor, CT, 2 nephews, Andrew Coble, Brandon Coble, and a niece, Leanna Coble.
Carol graduated from Concord High School in 1965 and from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN in 1970 with a degree in elementary education. She was in the Peace Corps in Jamaica from 1970 to 1972 where she taught English. In the summer of 1972, she went to Colorado to take some classes in education and ultimately ended up living in Ft. Morgan, CO. During these earlier years of living in Colorado, she was adventurous, enjoying activities such as snow skiing, mountain climbing, and long-distance bicycle riding. Carol was an elementary school teacher until she retired in the late 1980’s. She then assisted her husband with his electronics repair business.
Carol loved animals, including horses, dogs, and cats. For a time, she raised Keeshond dogs and showed them in AKC events. She was known in her small town for never turning away a stray cat and therefore had many cats that would continue to arrive regularly at her back door.
Her sister cherished these last several years and misses her daily.
Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the 3 p.m. memorial service, Sunday, April 7, 2024, at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. Interment will be held Monday, April 8, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at Prairie Street Cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor Tim Sheets from Northside Church of the Nazarene.
