SAMUEL H. LYLE December 1, 1922 - July 17, 2018 MISHAWAKA- Samuel H. Lyle, 95, of Mishawaka, passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at his home. He was born December 1, 1922, in St Louis, Missouri, to Samuel & Annie Laurie (Nordbeck) Lyle. On September 13, 1944, he married Mary Jane Baker. She preceded him in death on September 1, 2017. Surviving are 4 children, Sue Ann (Steve) Sears, Nancy Smith both of Mishawaka, Samuel (Sheila) Lyle of Kankakee, IL, Stephen (Katrina) Lyle of Marcellus, MI; 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Anita Gilbert. Sam was a 1st Lt. in the 8th Army Air Corps serving in the South Pacific during WWII. Priorities in Sam's life were his Christian walk, his family, friends, and church. His guiding principle in life was "Live Simply So Others Can Simply Live." He was a member of the Elkhart Northside Church of the Nazarene and a member of Gideon's International. He enjoyed working and collecting stamps and coins. Sam worked as a Civil Engineer all of his life. He worked for the St. Louis Water Works for 25 years, at Clyde Williams in South Bend for 3 years, was the manager of the Elkhart Water Works for 9 years and retired from the Ft. Worth Water Works as the Plant Manager. Visitation for family and friends will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. Funeral services for Sam will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2018 at the Elkhart Northside Church of the Nazarene, 53569 C.R. 7, Elkhart. Visitation will begin 1 hour prior to the service. Pastor Tim Sheets will preside and burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger, where the US Army Honor Guard and the Mishawaka VFW Post 360 will render military honors. Memorial contributions may be given to Gideon's International or to the Elkhart Northside Church of the Nazarene.
